Providing for your family in the future is all about financial planning and one of the fastest growing methods to achieve this financial freedom is through investing. Some people start their investing strategy small by using shares in higher risk areas, but move on to real estate when they have the funds. For the careful investor any one of the many areas can make money, sometimes sooner rather than later. Only brief details can be provided in this short article but it is hoped it will interest enough readers to look into it further.

Although investing into business franchise is a lucrative business, not everyone have the money to invest in it. The stock market is a great place to make money, and if you intend on doing this with stocks and mutual funds, it is highly recommended that you first carry out some research on the companies you wish to invest in. And if you find yourself investing on food companies, why not take it further and try your hand in fast food franchise especially if you are in for long term investments. But if you are looking for short term gains (long term too), then the stock market is the place to do this but it is also where everyone can end up with egg on their face from time to time! The safest place to place your money is in real estate; it might take many years for you to appreciate a decent return on your savings but when you do it will be big. Although many people purchase homes that are in need of remodeling, you can make a great deal of money by fixing them up and re-selling them but it isn’t as simple as just buying a house, painting it, and then selling it on.

Many people like investing in franchise but it is not for everyone The quickest way to get started is by doing it online and it is also the fastest growing sector of investment as it can be carried out by just about anyone providing they have a computer and an internet connection. Using a computer, this group of people comes from all walks of life and this allows them to be a trader who performs his or her own company research before they decide to buy or sell. This form of speculation must be done by a person with a strong sense of discipline because many people become addicted to the biding and find themselves losing money faster than they can earn it.

Whichever market you plan to work in, remember investing is a skill; true it can be learned but that often requires patience which is something many short term investors do not have. Whether it is with stocks, mutual funds, real estate online or the best business franchise, do your research and make some money! This is not an area short of information so it won’t take much effort to find a number of quality resource sites that can help you with this venture. This can be an exiting thing to do but it is also to forget your aim; investing is fun but it is also deadly serious to the vast majority of traders.

Globalization has brought numerous opportunities to the ordinary trader who is looking for as many investing opportunities as possible. As few as 20 years ago, the majority of investors were confined to the major North American markets to buy and sell their shares. Factor in the stock market holidays, and you were looking at a very set schedule for investing your hard earned money.

Of course, the largest global stock markets reside in North America. Of the major stock exchanges, none are bigger and trade more volume than the NYSE, Nasdaq and Amex exchanges. Even the TSX trades at a lower volume when the US enjoys a holiday. Taking that into consideration, its important to remember the days when the US markets are not open, and plan your trades around this.

There are numerous variables that make up a trader’s decision to buy or sell, and the timing of a holiday is one of them. Historically, some holidays are better than others for getting in before, and others suggest that its time to sit on some cash. Many larger institutional traders will close positions several days before a holiday, causing lighter trading volume around stock market holidays. This increases the stock market trading risk you’re taking on.

While we have covered other world markets in the past, for our purposes here, we’ll look at the holidays that impact the US stock exchanges.

New Years Day - January 1, 2008

Martin Luther King Jr. Day - January 21, 2008

President’s Day - February 18, 2008

Good Friday - March 21, 2008

Memorial Day - May 26, 2008

Independence Day - July 4, 2008

Labor Day - September 1, 2008

Thanksgiving Day - November 27, 2008

Day After Thanksgiving Day - Closes at 1pm

Christmas Eve - December 24, 2008 - Closes at 1pm

Christmas Day - December 25, 2008

As with many large companies, there are also some special rules that apply:

While not an official holiday, the day after Thanksgiving the markets close at 1pm

If the holiday that is being observed falls on a Saturday, then the market is closed on the proceeding Friday

If the holiday that is being observed falls on a Sunday, then the market is closed on the following Monday

Some holidays change from year to year such as:

Martin Luther King Jr Day falls on the 3rd Monday in January

Presidents Day falls on the 3rd Monday in February

Memorial Day is celebrated on the last Monday in May

Keeping track of the stock market holidays on the exchanges you trade on will help you become a better informed trader.

I just like to give my speech. I don’t like to worry about graphics and the like. Who wants a computer freezing up on you?

Don’t bother me.

nec computer projector

But most people giving presentations can’t be so cavalier.

compare computer projector

Buyer Zone: Almost everyone can identify with the fear of giving a bad presentation. To make matters worse, expectations of presenters have risen drastically.

No longer are audiences satisfied with black and white slides and washed-out color images. Nowadays, visually stimulating multi-media presentations are a must to keep business audiences captivated by your message.

computer video projector

Fortunately, creating interesting presentations does not have to be an entirely nerve-wracking experience. One way to improve your overall presentation is by using an LCD computer projector. LCD projectors combine the functions of an LCD panel and an overhead projector into a single unit. The majority of LCD projectors are both Mac and IBM compatible and come standard with nifty features such as remote control, stereo, and video projection capabilities.

Using programs such as Microsoft PowerPoint, computer projectors let you project presentations directly from your PC. In addition, they are ideal tools for presentations that require live computer screen shots, such as demoing a web site to a group of clients or instructing employees on the uses of a particular computer program.

The type of LCD projector that you choose will greatly depend on the room settings that you plan to use the projector in. Generally speaking, the brighter the room, the brighter the projector lamp that you will require. Lamp brightness is calculated in ANSI lumens, an industry standard measurement. You’ll want a lamp with a minimum of 300 ANSI lumens for presentations that take place in relatively dark rooms. However, don’t settle for less than 500 ANSI lumens (750 if its a large auditorium) if you need to keep the room well-lit so that the audience can take notes.

Another factor to consider is resolution. This refers to the number of screen pixels that can be displayed by the LCD system. In order to get the sharpest image, you’ll need to choose a system that can project the highest resolution that your computer can support. Only a few years ago VGA (640×480 pixels) was the standard. Today, many laptops now feature SVGA (800×600) and XGA (1024×768) as their standard resolutions. Many projectors can also project higher or lower resolutions by expanding or compressing the picture, but these methods will somewhat degrade the image.

Finally, portability should be at the top of your checklist if you plan to take your presentations on the road. LCD computer projectors currently range from just under eight lbs. to as much as 60 lbs. If you’re a road warrior, I suggest that you stick to a projector of less than 15 lbs. No one wants to be dragged down by an LCD projector while running to their connecting flight.

LCD projector prices range from $2,000 for lowest-end models to $20,000 plus for the latest and greatest. Expect to pay around $6,000-$8,000 for a portable LCD projector that supports true SVGA resolution.

executive coaching
By Glenn Broder:

This means that every word they say and every action, both tactical and physical, they take with a qualified prospect is for the purpose of comforting the prospect through rapport and setting up closing the sale.
life coach
Skilled closers use their time with every prospect discovering exactly what will make the sale close specifically from what the prospect will have told them. Closing business is job satisfaction in our chosen field. Not closing is frustrating and maddening.
I said “deliberately” close sales. Lack of confidence will never close sales. Closing takes supreme confidence. After making a polished educational presentation you will simply hold your prospect to their own words and responses and predictably close sales.
sales consultants
By learning and knowing how prospects will generally react, in advance, and preparing for their response, you will build supreme confidence in your ability to generate new prospects, close the sale, and turn them into clients. The “Just a Yes or No, Please” structured selling system allows you to instantly set up a custom presentation for every qualified prospect you visit. You will use the client’s own responses as the guide for this presentation and you will close using the prospects own answers. The refinement of your presentation will increase positive results, dramatically. The system will work optimally because we will develop, and you will implement, an educational presentation, completely scripted to give you the confidence and the best opportunity for turning every qualified prospect into a client. The tactical use of words, questions, and confirmations will make your closing percentages increase markedly. Why? Practice and prepare for a positive result, visualize the positive result, and then execute with precision to achieve the positive result. The “Just a Yes or No, Please” structured selling system will allow you to prepare, visualize, and execute the presentation of your product or service, in any situation conducive to selling. Control equals closed sales. Lack of control allows the prospect to sell you on why they will not buy from you. Our goal is to consistently close as many qualified prospects as possible, and taking control of every presentation and prospect will let you achieve the highest return from all sales efforts. You will educate all prospects, according to their individual needs. Most importantly the presentation will allow you to control and lead the prospects exactly where you want them to go. We must prepare and present so that every prospect question and objection can be neutralized during the presentation. The “Just a yes or no, please” structures selling system will prepare you for the highest possibility of closing success.

games
From the New York Times: Determining the winner is about the only part of “American Idol” left to chance. That was made clear during recent visits to Stage 36 in Television City, near Hollywood, where each Tuesday and Wednesday on Fox “American Idol” creates hopes and dashes dreams.
From the placement of local sorority members along camera sight lines to the instructions to the audience members about when to stand and how to wave their hands, “American Idol” is as scripted as a “reality” show dare be.
movie posters
For the audience members who stand in the “mosh pit,” the area immediately in front of the stage, special instructions are required. “When you are applauding after a performance, we need your hands above your head,” Mr. Almeida said before a recent Tuesday performance. Then, three minutes before the live broadcast, the introductions: Ryan Seacrest, the host, who, after the theater is darkened, announces the entrance of the judges as the true stars of the show. A Stage-Shrinking Trick
The most striking thing about encountering the sparkling “American Idol” stage set is how much smaller it seems in person than on television. The audience too looks expansive on television, but the hall includes only 12 rows of seats, four at floor level and eight in bleachers. Performing a live television show is an exercise in exactitude. Fifteen seconds to air, as the stage manager, Debbie Williams, began the countdown, Ms. Abdul scurried into the auditorium from the green room, ducking into her seat as Mr. Seacrest began his routine.
movie titles
During most commercial breaks the three judges leave their seats, sometimes chatting with the executive producer, Nigel Lythgoe, at other times floating toward the audience to greet guests or sign autographs. Herding Sororities
Last week it was the Delta Gamma and Delta Delta Delta sororities.
Stage assistants choose specific women and place them where the hand-held cameras will swoop during performances. A veritable platoon of security guards monitors every aspect of the performance, and all judges have bodyguards who follow them from backstage to the judges’ table. The guards apparently spend all week with the contestants as well. When Mr. Seacrest and others bill “American Idol” as being live, they are slightly fudging the truth. Parts of many shows are recorded, particularly some performances by guests and the segment where callers pose questions to the contestants or judges. On April 1, after the Tuesday broadcast was completed, the producers taped Chris Brown and Jordin Sparks, last year’s “Idol” winner, for broadcast a week later. Mariah Carey appeared on last Wednesday’s show, but her performance had been taped a half-hour before the live broadcast, then played back during the show.

Wedding rehearsal dinners are a chance to unwaind a little and enjoy a quiet evening before the big day. But adding some fun and games into the rehearsal dinner isn’t such a bad idea. It’s a good way to help everyone let off some steam, calm down and enjoy each other’s company.

If you’re planning a sit-down formal dinner, fun games and activities can still be on the menu. There’s been a lot of planning, and a lot of stress. The wedding party and close friends and family will welcome the opportunity to have some fun.

The success or failure of any games or activities largely depends not just on the planning but your venue. If you’re having a sit-down dinner in a restaurant, try to get a private room. Then lots of fun activities can be organized, such as “pin the veil on the bride”, in which blindfolded guests spin around a few times, then try to pin the veil on a picture of the bride. Silly, yes, but also fun.

One fun activity sure to help everyone blow off some steam is charades. Whoever is up will act out a scene from the bride or groom’s life, so it might be when graduating from college, or getting a huge promotion at work. The “it” person might choose to act out when the bride tripped and fell at another person’s wedding or when the groom saved a dog from getting hit by a car. This is a little twist on charades that allows people get to know the bride and groom better, and adds intimacy to the occasion.

If the wedding rehearsal dinner is a bit less formal and held in someone’s home, there are many more activities that can take place. For example, how about a night of playing board games? Who needs formal food? You can have that at the formal wedding. At this rehearsal dinner party, the games are center stage.

Bring in some nibbles and tell everyone to wear comfortable clothes and settle in for a night of board games. You can set up games on different tables, divide people into groups of 4 or 5 and have everyone rotate tables at designated times. You can even instruct game players that when they move to another table, the game stays out the way it is. So, for example, dad might begin playing Monopoly where the bride was and he’s stuck with only a little money in the bank and no houses on Boardwalk.

Suppose the bride and groom are really into sports. If the wedding is to be held in the summer and the days are long, what about a game of touch football or baseball? You can play bride’s family against groom’s family, men against women, or for a twist, the bride plays with the groom’s family and the groom with the bride’s family. Any combination works. The idea here is to have some fun, relax and enjoy each other’s company.

Be sure to have a camera at the rehearsal dinner/event, because you’ll want to capture the fun!

depreciation rates

I had a long chat with Selwyn Gerber and put video up on my website lukeford.net.

He operates GerberCo.com and costsegplus.com.

What is Cost Segregation?

cost segregation cpa

Cost Segregation is the detailed separation of building components and assets by allowable useful life for Federal Income Tax purposes in order to capture the dividend and/or cash flow benefits with shorter depreciable lives. While the capturing of only the carpet and cabinets as personal property may yield 3% of the component costs, a non-intrusive yet detailed engineering study can mean three-, five sometimes 20 times more savings than the 3% found in cabinets and carpeting. These savings can be substantial and the cost of the report can be paid for in the first year of savings!

construction cost segregation

Why do a CostSegPlus™?

Because of the “present value effect” — AKA a “dollar today is worth more than a dollar tomorrow” — an IRS-compliant tax deduction today is worth far more than one claimed in the future. Assume that the deduction is for depreciation and that the “today” is actually a 5 or 7 year recovery period while the “tomorrow” is a 39 year recovery. The accelerated depreciation from the shorter period means increased current cash flow, which in turn can be used to underwrite current or future expansion. The real dollar savings go to your bottom line! And the CostSegPLus ™ unconditional guarantee makes this an irresistible proposition.

What About Aquired Property?

For purchased property, one key is the cost/value allocated to land versus land improvements, building, and personal property. The most defensible position for the taxpayer is a complete property appraisal. Another approach is to determine the market value of the land only. The balance of purchase price can be assigned to the improvements. The least costly alternative, and the one most likely to be scrutinized by the IRS, is to base the allocation on the assessor’s split between land and real property improvements.

How Does Cost Segregation Affect A Contractor or Management Company?

These types of companies can offer Cost Segregation as a value added service. Gerber & Co. can counsel you on specific procedures to observe during construction that can document allocations and save significant time and money.

What potential tax savings may be lost by neglecting to take advantage of accelerated depreciation?

Accelerated depreciation adheres to well found interpretations of the Internal Revenue Code sections, applicable court cases and revenue rulings. Under IRS Revenue Procedure 96-31, real estate owners can change their method of accounting in order to re-compute the allowable depreciation and claim a retroactive adjustment for previously filed tax returns for both open and closed tax years. This creates an opportunity to correctly classify fixed assets and claim the entire difference between the allowable depreciation and the depreciation actually taken on past tax returns. Through four equal annual adjustments, real estate owners can correct what may have been years of incorrect property depreciation write offs and realize large tax savings.

How do I get started?

The initial feasibility report is a free, simple one-page form. Upon completion by the owner, fax or email to us. An initial free evaluation will be made available to the owner showing costs and a likely range of savings using the Cost Segregation Program. We will also provide a copy of our written unconditional guarantee.

If an agreement is made to go forward, the cost segregation agreement will allow our engineers to perform an engineering study identifying and classifying building components other than carpeting and cabinets. Component analyses will include walls flooring, and ceilings, plumbing, electrical, heating and air-conditioning, sound system and lighting.

Can I speak with an expert now?

Sure! Call 310-289.9888 and speak with Selwyn Gerber CPA or Suzanne Payne CPA who will take you through the intial steps and give you a preliminary indication of whether your property is likely to qualify for the substantial tax cuts we generally deliver.
